Family Behind Clif Bars Releases 2nd Vintage of Value-Driven Climber Series

cliffwines_smallClif Family Winery, order maker of high quality wines with a focus on sustainably farmed and organic grapes, sick has released the 2nd vintage of its wines.  Made in Napa Valley by celebrated winemaker Sarah Gott, stuff Clif Family Winery is owned and operated by Gary Erickson and Kit Crawford, founders of Clif Bar & Company, a leading maker of all-natural and organic energy and nutrition foods and drink.  While they moved to Napa Valley in 1998, Gary and Kit founded Clif Bar Family Winery in 2004 as their passion for family, food and adventure led them in the direction of wine.

The fruit for Clif Family Wines is sourced from some of the best vineyards in the Napa Valley and North Coast appellation.  The collection of wines includes the 2008 Climber White Wine ($14), the 2006 Climber Red Wine ($17), both excellent values in a market otherwise flooded with mediocre wines at similar price points.  No doubt instrumental in the Climber wines' high quality-to-price ratio is the masterful winemaking of Sarah Gott — known for her work with Napa's Quintessa and Joseph Phelps, as well as some smaller boutique brands like Oakville East.

All the better is the brand's commitment to sustainable viticulture.  "Supporting farmers that are making the transition to organic and sustainable farming practices is an important part of who we are at Clif Family Winery, and we know it will take time to be there one hundred percent," said Sarah Gott.  "But, working with growers who have demonstrated a commitment to the environment and sustainable farming of their land has always been a personal goal of mine.  Now, together with Gary and Kit, we are encouraging more growers to participate, as we continue our focus on making delicious Clif Family wines that are meant to be enjoyed with family and friends."
